Hanna snipped another rose. “I agree with Rockhammer, my dear,” she said mildly. “You strike me as rather wonderful.” She stood up straight. “There are things you may need a little help with, like everyone. They’re different for each person. Sometimes they can be strengths. Sometimes the strength comes from not letting them stop you.”

She smiled and continued. “Berin and I don’t argue so much these days. And one thing we certainly agree on is this: you are a good, strong person, Erin. You are brave. You are a dragonseer.”

“Then why did she send me away?”

“She didn’t!” said Hanna. “This is part of the Guild, just like the Hall. But here you can take a step aside. Get your strength back. Yes?”

Erin listened to the birdsong and felt the sun on her face. “It’s easier when I’m here,” she admitted.

“So. Take as long as you need. You can help me with the weeding.”

Erin smiled. “Sure.”
